Duties & Responsibilities
o Ensure defined Learning Design and Digital Editorial standards are implemented by your team across projects.
o Work with LD Operations manager to manage your team's resource allocation on projects. Ensure-insofar as possible-that projects get the LD resource that best suits their needs.
o Manage your team's performance to ensure your team achieves business goals. This will include mentoring individuals, setting performance objectives, and managing resources to agreed plans.
o Ensure your team are using agreed LD processes, procedures, and documentation in their projects.
o Ensure your team works positively and effectively with HMH Editorial teams on projects.
o Support your team to effectively manage outsource partners on projects, including selecting vendors, creating vendor "kits", training vendors, monitoring and evaluating vendor performance, dealing with performance-related issues, and relevant documentation.
o Identify when LD processes, procedures, and documentation need to be updated to reflect new/different needs of a project. Ensure such changes are integrated into overarching LD processes in a controlled manner.
o Proactively communicate relevant learning design related information to the Director of Learning Design in a timely manner.
o Proactively communicate relevant scheduling and resourcing information to the Learning Design Operations Manager in a timely manner.
o Engage regularly with HMH Editorial and Portfolio teams to build and strengthen relationships with these groups.
o Clearly communicate the role of LD to individuals and groups outside Learning Design.
o Contribute to, and manage your team's contributions to, initiatives relating to defining and evolving HMH Learning Design standards.
o Cascade appropriate information to your team.
o Travel may be required

The Opportunity
The Learning Design (LD) Manager will work under the direction of the Director of Learning Design to manage a team of Learning Design Leads who are responsible for the learning efficacy and user experience of HMH digital learning products. These products cover a wide range of exciting learning solutions, including:
• Engaging and highly interactive digital learning content, such as Science Fusion, Destination Math, and Destination Reading.
• Groundbreaking educational apps, such as HMH FUSE, Number Stax, and the Singapore Math Bar Models app.
• Fun and effective learning games, ranging from micro games integrated into HMH K-12 learning programs, to standalone and consumer games such as Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math for Wii Ware.
• Interactive whiteboard lessons for teachers to use in classrooms that are designed to promote an active and engaging teaching approach
• Professional support materials for teachers that enable them to make best use of HMH digital learning products in the classroom
The LD Manager will ensure that staff reporting to him or her feel they are part of a flexible and dynamic team; that their needs are listened to, understood and responded to; and that their performances are managed effectively. The LD Manager will work with the LD Operations Manager to allocate their LD Lead resources and they will contribute to ongoing efforts to reduce time, effort, and cost associated with learning design on projects-without impacting on product quality. (The aim is to improve LD work practices, rather than to negatively impact our customers' trust in the quality of HMH products.)
The LD Manager will support the Director of Learning Design in ensuring that HMH have a pool of best-in-class learning design outsource partners to work with, to monitor and track partners' performance on an ongoing basis, and to ensure the best choice of outsource partner is engaged for each project. The LD Manager will work with the Director of Learning Design and the Vendor Stategy team to drive development of learning design knowledge and strategy and to cascade this across the Llearning Design department and HMH as a whole.
