Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Donates 8,000 Textbooks to San Francisco Bay Area Parents and Students
FREMONT, Calif. — October 1, 2009 — Global education publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt hosted a San Francisco Bay Area textbook giveaway at the Fremont Public Library last Saturday, September 26. The Company distributed more than $500,000 in trusted K–12 instructional materials to hundreds of parents and students from Fremont to Sacramento.
“We’re thrilled to be able to support public education through community service,” said Mike Lavelle, K–12 president, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. “We are confident that our innovative research-based products will improve student performance throughout the Bay Area.”
Among the 8,000 books distributed were mathematics, science and language textbooks, as well as leveled readers. The Company is currently organizing a second textbook donation event, to take place in Southern California.
The Bay Area giveaway comes on the heels of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s September 21 District-wide Learning Village launch in Bakersfield, California. Learning Village is a revolutionary online educational platform and powerful curriculum management system that connects teachers through a central portal, enabling them to share lesson plans, best practices, instructional strategies and other resources that can improve instruction, academic performance and district-wide collaboration.
Bakersfield received a customized version of Learning Village, and is the first district to implement the twenty-first-century learning solution District-wide.
